How do I register?

Within 30 days of the contest, the entry form will be posted right here, and contestants accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

About Young Voices of Houston

Young Voices of Houston is a vocal competition for high school students in Houston, TX. High school singers from all over the city compete for cash prizes and more!

The Prizes!

1st Place: $500
2nd Place: $300
3rd Place: $200
4th-10th Place: $25

PLUS! Every contestant is awarded at least $25, a Culture Shapers t-shirt, a certificate of participation and a video clip of their performance posted online.

How it works...

The contest features up to 12 vocalists from all across Houston!
Contestants register online, first-come, first-served.
Each contestant is given 5-7 minutes to perform a song of their choice, with accompaniment track.
No other props may be used - only the singer may be on stage.
The performance is before a live audience at LRC, (Click here for map) in Northwest Houston.
The contestants are evaluated by a panel of three judges in the following five areas...

VOCAL ABILITY - How solid and well developed is their voice?
INTERPRETATION - How well does the performer get us to understand their piece?
MOVEMENT - Is their body language, staging, and choreography done well and appropriate for the song?
STAGE PRESENCE - How pleasing, comfortable, and in control is the performer and do they connect with the audience?
OVERALL SHOWMANSHIP - Do the above four elements fit together in a total package and performance?

Every contestant is awarded at least $25, a Culture Shapers t-shirt, a certificate of participation and a video clip of their performance posted online.
PLUS! The Top Three are automatically eligible to return and compete in the annual YVOH FINAL competition, where the cash prizes total more than $5,000!
