About the Visual Arts Contest...

The annual Culture Shapers Visual Arts Contest enables student artists to compete for nearly $70,000 in cash prizes in six categories... drawing, painting, electronic media, mixed media, photography and sculpture. The contest takes place in the Fall, and is open to all High School Students in Harris, Waller, Liberty, Chambers, Galveston, Brazoria, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties.

Students receive a commemorative t-shirt with their entry fee of $20. Entry forms will be e-mailed to the teacher after online registration, and parents, students or teachers deliver and pickup the entries at the drop-off location.

Each year, the Culture Shapers Volunteer Staff receive about 1,500 entries. Jurying will take place in November. The top ten finalists in each category will be invited to an elegant awards ceremony in December, where the winners will be finally announced before a live audience.

About the Culture Shapers Jurying Process...

Culture Shapers jurors are a combination of educators and professionals, who come highly recommended to us by other notable organizations, such as the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE), as well as others. Many of our jurors have experience both in and out of the classroom, which gives them a unique and valuable perspective on evaluating student artwork. About the Jurors...

Richard Fielden - Sculpture was the first art I noticed and the first art I tried to do. After nearly 30 years doing commercial art, design and illustration, I have given myself over to sculpture. Now, years later, I have been a teacher, artist and sculptor full-time with many public commissions to my credit. Have done large public commissions: Enron baseball (bronze) Colombe d'or bird (concrete and gold leaf) Herman Hospital (life gift) Texas Children's Hospital (tree of life). Have sold many small bronzes to collections around the U.S. and in Europe.

Bridgette Mongeon has worked in the creative industry for over 20 years. She is a painter (watercolor) but is known for her sculptures of entertainers such as BB King, Willie Nelson, and Bin Monroe, as well as her numerous commissions of children. Recent commissions include Nolan Ryan's grandson and negotiating a Houston Music Hall of Fame. She has been featured both nationally and internationally for her work. Bridgette enjoys encouraging others to achieve their artistic goals and does so through her workshops, lectures and articles that she has written. She has been a contributing writer with several books and is presently working on her first solo book about creating posthumous sculpture entitled, Bringing to Life the Spirit of the deceased - A Sculptors Journey. www.creativesculpture.com

R. Michael Stovall - Graduate SWT with a BS in Commercial Art and ABS in all level Art Education. 23 years in public education teaching art in Bellville High School. Sculpture and Pottery are both large parts of my curriculum, as I love to work in clay. I have attended several sculpture workshops and cast a bronze called "I Have A Son".
