The competition was awesome. Unfortuantely only two could make it to the FINALS in April. Winning first place and $500 was Kristen Malisewski a Junior at Tomball. Second place and $300 went to Myka Duval a Sophmore at Cinco Ranch. Third place and $200 went to Treshana Lewis a Sophmore at Seven Lakes. We will be seeing these three next year for sure.

We Need A Sponsor For YVOH

We need a sponsor for the FINALS in April ($5,000) and a sponsor for the entire 2010-11 school year which is $15,000 (individual or corporate). This is a great advertising opportunity and tax deduction. If you know of anyone who is interested, please have them email or call us for specific details. A great cause!

Thursday, February 25th we have our next to last semi final and then on to the March semi final which will determine the last two contestants to advance to the April FINALS! Good luck all.

Very Successful Wine Auction!

Thanks for everyone who participated and made this years wine auction very successful. We had about a dozen or so pieces of art for sale and many were purchased. I don’t know the exact amount, but something north of $1,000 was sold. Additionally, it was our second best auction with net proceeds of $15,000.
We’re still in need of a FILM FESTIVAL sponsor and one sponsor for the DRAWING category for next year. Each sponsorship is $15,000- individual or corporate donations.

There were 8 of the 12 that were neck-n-neck In fact the judges had a TIE for 1st and 2nd, and they had FIVE people ties for 4th place Third place was Alicia Reece, a senior at Atascocita. She won $200 and gets to come back and compete again in March should she choose. After the judges reconsidered the tie, second place (and $300) went to a Sophomore at Houston Christian High- James Whitcomb. First place and $500 goes to Casey Gilbert: she is a senior at Cy-Woods! Voted as the “Crowd Favorite” and winning $100 was Sierra Grant, a Freshman at Klein. Congratulations to ALL.

CultureShapers has an Annual Wine Auction that raises funds to give scholarship to the Visual & Performing Art students in the Houston Metro area. Our event this year is February 22. 1-Guess how many BIRDIES will be shot during the Shell Houston
Open Mar. 29-April 4 (average for last 11 years has been 1,649).
2-Pledge 0.01 per birdie and they shoot 1,600 you donate $16. Thus $0.02
would be $32. A nickel pledge would be $90 – A $1.00 pledge $1,600!
3-You have from now until March 29 to guess. You get one guess
per penny pledged. Guess the right amount and you and any
others who guessed the same amount have a chance to win a
new 2010 Honda Fit!
4-You will not be billed until May!

Teacher Forum- January 30th

Elizabeth (Libby) DeLyria will share her immense and valued art skills from 9-12am at the CultureShapers offices, Saturday, January 30th. We currently have 23 teachers reserved. There is no charge but reservations are required.

A few highlights of her career include:

>Received the Robert Rauschenberg Award “The Power of Art” (May 2006)
>Chosen as U. S. State Department Cultural Envoy to Russia to expose educational practitioners to American teaching methodology (June 2006).
>Sudent artwork chosen to represent the United States with artwork hung in every Embassy in the world. “All Americans: Images of Heritage and Citizenship” US Embassy and Consulate Exhibit: An education initiative designed to promote a civil society including images of artwork by Texas schoolchildren, organized by the Texas Commission on the Arts and presented internationally by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State.
