Congratulations to Lane Preston, a Senior at Jersey Village (Alana Jordan-teacher) who won 1st place and $5,000 in Photography. First place in Electronic Media and $5,000 went to Julianne Crea, a Junior at Cy-Fair (Earl Emery- teacher). Can you imagine being in high school and getting a check for $5,000? Not in my day!

Congratulations to the other 18 winners who took home anywhere from $250 to $2,000. And then there’s the HUNDREDS who took the risk, presented their art, and gained valuable experience for the next time. All winners and the pictures of the entries will be posted in the next few days.

Amazingly, 12 of the 20 winners came from Cy-Fair ISD. Way to ROCK Cy-Fair!

Sunday: The judges do their work from 8am-noon, The award ceremony is from 4-5:30, and then all art is picked up from 5:30-7:00pm.Congratulations to all 555 entries and the 128 students who entered both categories with a shot at winning $10,000. Wonder if there will be a double first place winners? Come and see Sunday

Special Kudos go out to Cy-Fair ISD with 43% of all entries: Cy-Woods High School with 15% of all entries, and Juan Guevara who topped all teachers with 44 entries.

I had to do a double take when I saw who the judges had declared the FIRST PLACE winners in the Painting and Mixed Media contests. Two different people with the same last name. A special congratulations to our first place winners who each received a check for $5,000!

1-There were a total of 351 entries: 201 Mixed Media and 150 Painting.
2-The high school with the most entries is John Cooper
3-Christie Skinner was the teacher with the most entries.
4-53% of the entries are Seniors.
5-SEVENTY students have entered BOTH categories which means that 70 students have a shot at $10,000!

We have a great crop of potential Heart In Art Award winners, but only ONE can win! Those interviewed, but not chosen, can re-apply in January and in March.

All art must be picked up Sunday from 5:30-7pm

The top ten winners in each category will have to fill out a W-9 form to receive your check which REQUIRES that YOU (the student) have a social security number. If you do not have a social security number, do not enter, as you are not eligible.
