About the Visual Arts Contest...

The annual Culture Shapers Visual Arts Contest enables student artists to compete for more than $85,000 in cash prizes in six categories... drawing, painting, electronic media, mixed media, photography and sculpture. The contest takes place in the Fall, and is open to all High School Students in Harris, Waller, Liberty, Chambers, Galveston, Brazoria, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties.

Students receive a commemorative t-shirt with their entry fee of $20. Entry forms are downloaded from the website and parents, students or teachers deliver the entries to the drop-off location.

Each year, the Culture Shapers Volunteer Staff receive about 1,500 entries! This year, jurying will take place on Sunday, November 2nd. The top ten finalists in each category are personally invited to the exclusive Awards Night, where the winners are finally announced!

About the Culture Shapers Jurying Process...

Culture Shapers jurors are a combination of educators and professionals, who come highly recommended to us by other notable organizations, such as the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE), as well as others. Many of our jurors have experience both in and out of the classroom, which gives them a unique and valuable perspective on evaluating student artwork. Hunting PLC, an international oil services company, has announced their call for entries for the 2007 Hunting Art Prize—a $50,000 award open to established, emerging, and amateur artists from throughout Texas. Artists submit a single two-dimensional work (excluding photography) for consideration for the prize. Initial entries include one slide and a completed online form, all submitted no later than Friday, November 17, 2006.

I am interested in submitting for the art contest, but have had no successin knowing how to submit a “slide”.

I am told that it cannot be made with a digital photo, the disposable camera does not have “slide” capabilities, and it seems as if “slide” film is very scare.

Please tell me how to cope with this problem, and be able to enter the contest.
    Thanks

    Hi Roy–

Good question. The Hunting Art Prize has posted a list of places across Texas that can help you create a slide. Visit http://www.huntingartprize.com and click on the FAQ page. If this doesn’t answer your question, please send Shari King an email at Shari@tw2kcom.com.

Thanks for your interest and good luck!
